Petzl RocTrip invites you to participate in skill clinics led by professionals and athletes from Team Petzl: Alex Megos, Sasha DiGiulian, Chris Sharma, Edu Marin… and many others! It’s a great opportunity to revisit your skills or learn new ones. We are committed to our partnership with the Manikia Project, which means that we’re also committed to upholding their values and organizing a socially responsible Petzl RocTrip — that’s why we’re limiting the number of in-person participants and keeping long-distance travel to a minimum this year.
If you’re a climber who is proficient in single pitch outdoor climbing and you want to learn to multi-pitch climb, this clinic is for you! You’ll learn the basics required to climb multi-pitch sport routes. Topics covered: Climbing and belaying for leaders and seconds, setting up an anchor at the belay station, rappelling. Prerequisites: This clinic is for climbers who are proficient in climbing single pitch routes outdoors, without the need for a guide. The climber must know how to tie-in without help, belay a lead climber, and install a top rope for lowering. Level required: Climb outdoor 5a (5.8) on lead.
If you’re already proficient in multi-pitch climbing, it’s always a good idea to learn new skills to improve efficiency and optimize your time on the wall. In this clinic, work on perfecting your skills for multi-pitch sport climbing! Your partner will be a Petzl athlete and/or a certified mountain guide. Topics covered: Preparation and optimization for multi-pitch sport climbing, climbing with a single rope, hauling and haul systems, clove hitch. Prerequisites: This clinic is for climbers who are proficient in climbing multi-pitch routes outdoors, without the need for a guide. The climber must know how to set up an anchor, belay a lead climber and a second, and rappel. Level required: Must be able to onsight outdoor 6b+ (5.11a) on lead.

This clinic is for you if you’re looking to learn the basics of technique and body positioning for single pitch sport climbing outdoors. Topics covered: Body positioning, route reading, foot placement, foundational skills. Prerequisites: This clinic is designed for climbers who started climbing in the gym and would like to become proficient in climbing outdoors. The climber should know how to put on their harness and tie-in without help, and should know how to properly top rope belay. Level required: From 4a to 6a+ (5.5 to 5.10c)
You’re a single pitch sport climber looking to improve your skills with the help of Petzl athletes and experienced professionals — this one is for you! Topics covered: General technique, strategy, fear management, belay technique. Prerequisites: This clinic is designed for climbers who are proficient in climbing single pitch routes outdoors, without the need for a guide. The climber should know how to lead belay, as well as set up a top rope for lowering a climber. Level required: 6b (5.10d)
Take a little break from climbing to go on a refreshing and fun adventure in Manikia Canyon. You’ll be led by a professional guide who will show you all the joys of canyoning, including waterfall rappels, jumping into pools of water, and going down natural slides. Prerequisites: The participant should be in good physical condition and able to walk for two hours, as well as be able to swim well.
Give deep water soloing a try! In this discipline, climbers scale cliffs over water and take controlled falls when they come off the wall. An athlete from Team Petzl and an experienced professional will be your guides, helping you discover deep water soloing step by step. Prerequisite: The climber should be able to jump into water from a height of 3 meters (~10 feet), and must be able to swim well. Required level: Onsight 6b (5.10d) outdoors
If you’re a proficient climber, whether it’s on single or multi-pitch, but you want to learn more about the process of developing areas for outdoor climbing, this clinic is for you! Depending on your skills and your comfort level during the clinic, you’ll be able to bolt a section of a route. This clinic is led by athletes from Team Petzl and the main route developers in Manikia. Topics covered: Choosing a sector, movement along the rope, using a drill, differences between anchor points, bolting methods. Required level: Onsight 6a (5.10b) on lead outdoors
The portaledge is a hanging system designed for climbers that spend multiple days on the wall. In this clinic, you’ll get a taste of what it’s like by spending one night sleeping on the wall, with an incredible view overlooking the Manikia valley. A short via ferrata will lead you straight to the pre-installed portaledges, where you’ll sleep under the stars and stay tied into the wall all night long. Prerequisites: The portaledges are installed on the cliff at over 100 meters (~330 feet) from the ground. Participants must not have a fear of heights and must be comfortable with exposure. Required level: The participant must be able to complete a via ferrata.
In this clinic, get expert advice for your next camping trip to the mountains from professionals and athletes from the tent brand, Samaya. You’ll pack your bags and then hike one hour to arrive at your camping destination in the mountains surrounding Manikia. Then, you’ll set up camp and cook your dinner. After a night under the stars, you’ll enjoy breakfast at sunrise before your return to the Petzl RocTrip Basecamp. Required level: Participants must be able to walk for one hour, with 400 meters (~1300 feet) of elevation change.
